The First Songwriter Contest, Torrevieja, in February 2010.

Torrevieja will have the first singer-songwriter Music Contest in February 2010. The Association Interculturarte Iberica, a nonprofit organization with the motto "Art, Culture, Talent" will hold this cultural event dedicated to all artists living together in the Vega Baja area. The performing artists compete with their own songs: music and lyrics. The host of this event is Murphy's On The Park Pub located on Calle San Policarpo 87.

New Impetus for Torrevieja Neighbourhood Watch.


Torrevieja’s Neighbourhood Watch scheme, set up as a pioneer project around ten years ago, is set to take on a new impetus which aims to establish a closer working relationship between coordinators and our local security forces. The scheme in the ‘city of salt’ has operated successfully since 1999, offering at the very least, a greater sense of security and unity to residents of all nationalities. However, over recent weeks, “Asociación Vecinos Cooperando” members in Torrevieja have participated in fruitful meetings with both the newly appointed Comandante of the Guardia Civil, Alfonso Martín as well as Director General of the Policia Local, Francisco Javier Míguez.  Both security chiefs have outlined their enthusiasm and support for the scheme and stated their intention of working closely with NHW groups in the future.

International Cofradia collects for Cáritas

This Saturday, 6th September, sees the official launching of the International Cofradia’s appeal for dried foods. The dried foods will be given to the local Cáritas organisation in Torrevieja and the aim is to collect at least the weight of the paso that the International Costaleros carry in the Easter parades. The paso of ‘La Oración de Nuestro Padre Jesús en el Huerto de los Olivos’ (Jesus in the Garden of Olives weighs 1,500 kilogrammes.

Another Neighbourhood Watch Success

Early in July the Guardia in Torrevieja received a request via Interpol from the British Police asking for help in tracing a vehicle believed to be in the area with false British number plates.
